Schubert piano sonata in A minor D. 537
on: August 02, 2023, 03:52:18 PM
Hi, I'm currently learning this sonata. I'm not a professional player, far from it, but I know I should be able to play this piece. I find it hard going, and progress is very slow. I'm also having difficulty reading some of the chords.  :-[Does anyone have any tips on how to practise it? Thanks! :)

It's a very big piece! Can you ask more specific questions about the parts you are having trouble with, what's happening, what's tripping you up? I'm sure we can help you, but you having difficulty with the chords and making slow progress is just too vague to give a good answer :)

I understand! :) The problem is I'm mostly self taught and on top of that not very good with computers ie posting specific things on here. I am only on the first movement and have trouble reading the big chords , not the opening chords but a few bars in. I'll try and count them so you can see which bars they are. Thank you for your reply, and for your patience with me. :)I'll be back! ;)

These are the chords I'm having trouble with. I must say in this photo of the sheet music it's written much clearer than in my own. I have the Peters Edition.

So if I understand correctly you are struggling to figure out which notes are in the chords? Which notes do you think it is right now? I'll help you correct if you get something wrong.

Hi, I've finally figured them out. How embarrassing 😳  It's coming along slowly. But I'm thinking of giving up   :'(  Perhaps this piece is a little too ambitious for me...It's a shame because I find it very beautiful. I'm getting in trouble midway through now...
Thank you for replying.  :)

Is it reading trouble or technical difficulties that are mainly tripping you up?
