Oh yeah I think I've heard of him. Hes the dragon furry person, right?
1. Skurry uses they/them pronouns.

2. I don't think that's the primary thing that they're known for, but yes?

Edit: new page, yay.

We had this argument on this thread:
https://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php?topic=72381.0
...and that argument was removed by moderation because you and lostinidlewonder proceeded to prove my point for me.
Oh boy, this is a tough one...

This video does a pretty good job explaining it:

In the words of the creator, "watch the first 20 minutes of this video, and stick around for the rest if [you] feel like it."

Also, wikipedia is helpful, as it often is:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamergate

And this is just a specific well-known example of toxicity. The number of instances of people being extremely toxic in online video game communities is probably in the trillions, if not higher.
Well that's
disturbing.

I think that's putting it extremely mildly.

And this is a relatively similar arc to how a lot of right-wing conspiracies unfold (QAnon, for example).

What is the primary thing that this scurry person is known for then?
1. Skurry, not scurry; Skurry is a person, whereas scurry is a word.

2. Probably their ridiculous Hollow Knight randomizer runs.

Yeah, I first played it on release day. I even have a screenshot of being among the first .3% of players to complete a mask. I'll post that here when I get back home (it's on a different computer)
Also, here's the screenshot of me being among the first .3% of players to get a completed mask in Silksong:

More that gasplamey's free time seems to overlap with mine on weekends, so there's a ton of rapid-fire posts between the two of us for a few days every now and then.

Didn't you give up on the "odd replies" strategy last page?

Eh, whatever. It's still a strategy for winning this game, and in the short term no strategy is any more effective than any other strategy.

Also, STLPW now has more posts than "How are you doing right now ?," which makes it the 7th most-replied-to thread on the forum.

Also revive
Eh, the thread has died for periods a lot longer than two days and come back just fine. The thing with these threads is that the second someone who wants to post in them finds them, they're going to post in it and potentially revive it from a years-long slumber. The thread will never truly end unless it gets locked by admin or the site gets taken down.

And why the single posts? If you don't single post on this thread when others are double posting, then you never actually win for more than a few minutes at most. If the thread does get locked, then you have no chance of actually holding the second-to-last post.

A lot of this was just due to me and transitional (who were basically the only posters on this thread for a long time) just being able to get in a post often at very different times, and/or not noticing that the other has posted. Though the thread always comes back, case in point right now.

Though now that iel(?) seem to be mostly gone (or at least way less active than before), this thread is probably going to have some much longer (or much more frequent) downtime.

No, I probably won't. I've been losing for almost two years now, after all.
Though I also doubt that anyone else will win. After all, if you can't win this type of thread after two years (or 13, see LPW) of watching it like a hawk and posting in it religiously, then I don't think it can be won.

Well, per the nonexistent rules, there's nothing stopping me from travelling forward until after this forum has ceased to exist and then making two final posts on this thread, therefore making me the ultimate winner! ;D
...Except actually, I've already done this, meaning that it's physically impossible for anyone to post after me. May as well stop trying ;).

But I've been thinking, what's the point of these threads? It's just completely useless for something like this to exist. After all, the only point of this thread is to feel an arbitrary victory for minutes before the next person steals your crown. Is the point just infinite stimulation for our tired brain cells?

A big part of it is just for fun. Sometimes people also have other reasons for following these threads, though. Here's an example:
Honestly, these threads are part of the reason I keep coming to this forum. I do think you should be able to block out posts if you don't want to see them, though. Maybe being able to x out posts on the recent activity that you don't want to see would also be useful.

Honestly, the hate for composers like Sorabji, Xenakis, and Saariaho is extremely overblown. Obviously it's not for everyone, and it does take some getting-used to, but claiming that it's bad just because you don't like and/or understand it is frankly kind of stupid.

Do transcriptions and rearrangements count? If they do then I've listened to Cziffra's improv/transcription of the William Tell Fantasy fairly recently. It's a little difficult:

Also, Volodos' needlessly difficult arrangement of Rondo alla Turca:

Though ignoring stuff like that, does Rachmaninoff Concerto no. 2 count as overplayed? If not, then it's probably been at least a year since I listened to something like Fur Elise, Beethoven Sonata no. 14, or S. 141 La Campanella. I dislike a lot of these pieces, and there are simply better versions out there for some of them (La Campanella in particular).

I can kinda see your point. These are like the favorite pieces of people who haven't touched a piano before. I would also include Richard Clayderman in this category. But some of the overplayed pieces are overplayed for a reason; they have at least an ounce of musicality.

Do you have any suggestions for a Sorabji piece? I haven't listened to him, so what is a piece that can give me a good introduction to how he composes?
Sonata no. 5 Opus Archimagicum is long, beautiful, and very much Sorabji at his best.

Le Jardin Parfume is also pretty good and a bit on the shorter side.

If you want earlier Sorabji then probably his Spanish Fantasy. Fair warning though: it's even more horrifying than Liszt's, lmao.

But some of the overplayed pieces are overplayed for a reason; they have at least an ounce of musicality.
Can't really think of any where that's the case. I mean, using La Campanella as an example, both the S. 140 and S. 420 versions are more musical, more bravura-y, and just better (I'd argue that S. 420 La Clochette is one of the best long-form pieces ever written); yet, neither is remotely as well-known as the inferior S. 141 version.

La Campanella is just show-off music. There is no question about that. It is just for people to say, I know how to play the "hardest song" ever made.

You may flame me for this, but I believe that moonlight sonata has some degree of musicality included; it isn't just some mindless trash. (This is without regard to the 3rd movement, which is also show-off music)
