The same thing happens with the word 'gay'. Sure, some used to use it as a derogatory word, but if someone is homosexual, then it's still legitimate to call them gay because it means the same thing.

No... I'm going to argue that no matter what one does in life there is always someone who takes offence, NO MATTER what is said to them. Have you spoken to most of the Trans people in the world? Have you taken a census? A poll?

I don't really know what to think about these topics, because I'm almost never personally offended by these kinds of words. They should be used with some discretion, though.
