Rachmaninoff's concertos
on: November 22, 2023, 08:22:33 PM
I wonder what your opinion is about Rachmaninoff's concertos.
I can't help but admire the second concerto, I even get goosebumps while listening to it. Lately, my favorite movement is the second one, I just love it so much.
The first concerto is majestic. I would love to hear it live one day.
The third one, I heard a lot about its difficulty, is the one that I don't listen to a lot. But I think it will grow on me the more I listen to it.
Recently, by a recommendation of a friend, I have listened to the fourth concerto from Daniil Trifonov, it sounds very Disney-like. Got caught off guard at the third movement but liked the ending. I thought it was a very Liszt thing to do to add all these runs and octaves.

If you like Rachmaninoff's concertos, you may also like Medtner's 3rd - a similar sound world.

They're well written works but not for me. "Too many notes" as someone somewhere said sometime.
