Bach-Busoni - Nun komm der Heiden Heiland, BWV 659
on: January 10, 2024, 05:32:15 PM
This is filmed with a very good camera, a 6K camera, that is capable of great close-ups. Actually what you are seeing in this video is one take, from a stationary camera, there is no cut away or B footage, it is close-ups from the original shot superimposed. I wanted to tell the story of the organ and the piano via transcription of course but also the empty organ console is a visual comment on the mystical relationship between performer and instrument. Bach’s organ music was written to be heard and not seen as most of the organists were invisible up in a loft. And finally the nature of this piece, with its eerie interludes and expressive solo voice, suggests some alternation between the human and the divine.
Hope you will enjoy. Watch in full screen

I enjoyed this a lot. No comments to be honest.
You may like this performance, it is wonderful. Who said the organ couldn;t express emotion? Perfect rubato and articulation. Note how he uses legato and minute gaps to make the melody talk.
