on: February 21, 2005, 02:17:20 PM
has ANYONE heard this piece?
it gives me goosebumps it's so good. but nobody seems to be familiar with it. Also, do you think this piece is competition level?

Yes, I'm familiar with it. It's OK, pretty is some parts, but a little too tedious for my tastes (I have it with Dosse performing it). Of that flavor, I prefer all the Saint-Saens by far. I'd even prefer Lalo's and Chaminade's over it.
As for "competition level", any piece performed beautifully is competition level. What's important is if you love the piece and if you can execute it flawlessy and give the judges something to remember. The orchestra is particularly important in the Massenet, so if you decide to go with it, make sure your 2nd piano is top notch.
Good luck!
