D. Scarlatti, Sonata B minor (K 87)
on: February 12, 2024, 06:58:08 AM

Probably the most well-known sonata by Scarlatti. I adore the polyphony in this piece and had to kind of resist the temptation to use lots of pedal and play it like a Chopin Nocturne...

Very nice. It's a great piece, isn't it. Good job memorizing it - I found the non-imitative, non-fugal counterpoint made it much harder to memorize than the average Scarlatti sonata or Bach fugue.

I'm not so much tempted towards playing it like a Chopin Nocturne as to trying to imitate a viol consort with a soprano vocalist. Lots of ways to play it and yours sounded great.

Quite beautiful!, you have a lovely tone.  And it's a darn good piano as well.

I wouldn't mind hearing it with no pedal.  You definitely lean toward a 19th century concept, in the sound.  I think it's fun to try to create a baroque sound with Scarlatti and Bach ... it stretches one's technique.
