Warming up for a performance
on: February 22, 2005, 03:52:39 AM
For me, I always warm up my fingers with some technique before I delve into my repertoire, cuz if I don't, I just can't handle the technical aspect of the music. Does anyone feel this way too? and do you have any tips on how to be able to perform without having to spend an entire hour warming up? thanks =)

I just kind of play whatever I want for a while, then go back stage and sit with my little hand-warmers. These are things you can buy in the "outdoors" section of your nearest retail store, they're made for hunters and such. This technique business is rubbish

I personally like to have nothing to do with my program repertoire during the day of my performance. On the actual day, I pretty much play as normal. Some light exercises, sight-reading, improvising, and I play other pieces I'm working on that aren't on that night's program (however I don't practice improvising at all if it's a jazz concert). I'm also one of those people that has to be completely alone during the hour or so before the performance. I like to find a quiet room and turn all the lights off and practice breathing and visualizing my performance (and occasionally talk to myself). For some reason doing that really puts me in the right frame of mind to play.
Peace,
Bri

I don't touch my performance repertoire at all on the day of the performance. I usually rip-snort through some Joplin (funny, with that ragtime thread also on here) right beforehand to get really juiced.

Me 2 , i really need to warm up to get ready for it.
But i think if i play like 8 hours everyday then i don't really need to warm up the next day.
