Hi everybody.

I just wanted to ask some experts how the would describe playing bar 3 RH on Bach Gminor piece (attached).

If using the fingering I've provided I find it awkward to only press the key with the 2 finger. However, I devised on my own a sweeping type of motion with my 2 finger where i sweep it back and forth. Sort of plug how you plug a guitar string with a pick back and forth.

Edit: it'd be more accurate to say I do a clawing action with the 2 finger

How do you guys describe playing the right hand with regards to how you press on the C with your 2 finger. or if you use alternate fingerings, I'd love to hear!

I find your fingering comfortable.

I would say I use my 2nd finger exactly the same way as I try to use it in any other pattern of notes:

Relaxed in a natural curve when not in the act of pressing or holding the key down. Economical and efficient movement when in use.

See if you can play the lower notes only, without the upper A, and make that comfortable. Then add the A back, and watch out so you don't tense the hand because your mind thinks you need to keep the A within reach (you don't). You only need the A when it's time to play the A, and you can get to it by moving your hand smoothly, without tensing it. It's the same when you move down to the C.

Lelle has excellent suggestions. Another thing you can try is to play it very slowly and after each note keep the finger that just played in place and bring the other fingers together so that they are all relaxed and touching one another - ie you have your hand in the most compact, relaxed, non-extended position possible. Do that even when you go up to the A. Obviously you will not do this at tempo (I mean you will not actually bring all the fingers together after each note), but you will be surprised how little extension of the hand you actually need to do to play at tempo, and the exercise will help you feel relaxed when going to and from the A.

Thank you for confirming lelle. I found this helpful. Im pretty sure my problem was I didnt have a stable pivot point. Your advice helped and brogers advice was very good too

brogers70 - I am quite blown away by the technique you proposed as I wouldn't have thought that would helped. I tried it and now my RH 2 finger feels comfortably grounded against the Db and makes it feel more much more stable to play.  Awesome tip! :)

Glad it helped. I got that from one of Josh Wright's youtube videos - I've found it very helpful in places where I have a tendency to keep my hand in an extended, and therefore stressful, position longer than is necessary.
