Contemporary Era pieces?
on: February 22, 2005, 07:30:10 PM
Hi everyone. I've really been trying to broaden my repertoire lately, which means playing pieces from all different eras of music. Are there any pieces from the contemporary era that anyone can recommend?

Try Rautavaara etudes. Shortish the display technique and musicality and you get to learn extended technique. Theres Crumbs Makrocosmos too which is a classic extended technique piece and if you want something shorter theres H Cowells Banshee. Theres loads of rep but it tends not to be consistently played I had to get a print direct form the publisher for a recent piece becuase they stopped publishing it due to lack of demand! ::) Hope these get you started ;)

Lowell Liebermann's piano music is wonderful.
