Chopin - Nocturne 72-1 fingering
on: May 08, 2024, 06:20:51 PM
Hello ! I just finished the C-sharp minor "lento con gran espressione" Nocturne ! While I polish it I am starting the Nocturne op.72 n.1. The right hand is quite simple, but I'd like to ask your opinion on the fingering of these bars (the notes with the green circle) before "storing it" in the muscle memory  :)

There are several fingerings I found for these notes, what do you suggest for the best smooth transactions and sound between the chords ?

Thanks in advance !  ;)

The image below is a possibility. Check with your teacher! This is what I would do, and the arrow indications represent the places where Chopin allows a “lift” in the hand position to reset the fingering based upon the phrase markings. Remember that the end and beginning of a phrase marking (a slur) for pianists is a place where it is similar to a vocalist taking a breath, which means we can detach from the piano and reset our hand position to accommodate where we have left off and where we need to begin the next segment. See if this works!

I do:

First circle:
1 53 41 32 41 32 51 32

Second circle: same as jamienc

Third circle upper voice:
D 5
C 4-5
B 4
A 343
G 2
G 3
Lower voice uses 1 throughout

A little update, for what it's worth, I finished and polished this beautiful Nocturne.

There are just a couple of passages I will polish more just to be extra sure but, as a non professional player, I am satisfied with my result and I think learned useful things studying this piece  :)

Thank you again for your help  :)
