Recommendations?
on: June 06, 2024, 02:26:54 AM
Hello! I am an intermediate pianist who is looking for a new piece to learn. My current most difficult piece is Rachmaninoff C# Minor prelude, and I'm looking for something a bit calmer. I do want to push myself to become better, so any recommendations are welcome. I am a fan of late romantic and 20th century classical. Thanks for reading!

You could try the next piece in the set, the Melodie in E Major (Op. 3 No. 3).
last 3 schubert sonatas and piano trios are something else

You could do a Brahms intermezzo or chopin funeral march. But they both take a lot of musical maturity, which, if you have, then great, but if your don't have then not so great

You could have a look at Janacek's "On an Overgrown Path." It has 10 short movements, not too difficult but harmonically and emotionally interesting.

Debussy Reverie is a beautiful, calm piece that hopefully is not too difficult.  Clair de Lune is another good choice.

The Quiet Revolutionary of the Piano – Fauré’s Complete Piano Works Now on Piano Street

In the pantheon of French music, Gabriel Fauré (1845–1924) often seems a paradox—an innovator cloaked in restraint, a Romantic by birth who shaped the contours of modern French music with quiet insistence. Piano Street now provides sheet music for his complete piano works: a body of music that resists spectacle, even as it brims with invention and brilliance. Read more
