Keyboard

Hey all . . in just a couple years I'll be heading off to college and although most colleges have access to pianos I'd like to buy a portable keyboard. I've been looking at some Yamahas . . . I'd really like an 88 key one . . but I think I could live with 76. Do you have any suggestions? For a decient price (less than 1 grand)

tictac..... :)

on our skool electric keyboards u have things so u can change the tone to make it sound like sumthing else etc etc and thats why alot of keyboards are expensive cos they have all these gagets that make them sound not like a piano.........and its usless spending $$$ on fancy lil sounds if u just wnat the piano sound.

I would get an expensive one if ur goin 2 use it lots.....or a gud quality 1 cos u dont want to spend half ur life getting it repaired.......yamaha sounds like a good idea

maybe there cud be a good 2ndhand one out there.....but im not so keen on the idea of getting a second hand one u dont know if its fautly or not !

Lea,

Yeah I know what you mean about the school keyboards - they all have little display boards and knobs and everything, but it's just technology they've added in.  I'd recommend getting a basic 88 key keyboard without all the fancy stuff.

You might want to try the Yamaha P80 keyboard-- it's a really simple, bare-bones keyboard with a weighted action, great for a person who wants to use to practice on when there's no piano available without all the extra synthesizer effects.  I've played them at a music store before and they're actually quite nice, probably the most accurate piano feel i've seen in a keyboard; it's still not any kind of a substitute for a real piano, but if you need something to carry around with you i'd get that one; it usually costs around $900-1000.

I guess the difference is the polyphony 64 (P80).

Other than that, I still think P80 is better than DGX 500.

Maybe consider s30?

I don't know what you are interested in spending. But, I have a Roland FP-3, it's got weighted action and a pedal. It's skinny like a keyboard so you can stand it up some place out of the way. It's about 30 pounds. Got a nice sound, no internal amplifer, but you can use head phones and attatch it to a stereo. The keyboards with the internal amplifiers I found were signifgantly more. It a college room you'd want it quiet anyway.

It was about $1100. Like Lea said if you get an expensive one it will last a long time, through college and several apartments. That was my idea in getting it.

If I had $1100, I'd spend it on Yamaha P120.

If I had more money ($1900), I'd buy Yamaha P250.

Hey everyone! i'm still on the neverending search for a quality keyboard under $800. I'd like something that will last a long time and has weighted keys so that I can still feel like I'm playing something worthwhile. If anyone has any suggestions on keyboards or . . just anthing! HELP!
