Help with LTCL Repertoire
on: June 21, 2024, 10:41:44 AM
Hi all,
I would like some help deciding on one of the two programmes below on which would be better for a Trinity College LTCL piano exam. Both have similar total time for programme.

Programme 1 - Bach Prelude and Fugue in G#min BWV 887, Schumann Sonata in Gmin op. 22, Debussy Estampes

Programme 2 - Bach Prelude and Fuge G#min BWV 887, Chopin Ballade no. 4, Schumann Sonata in Gmin, Rain Tree Sketch - Takemitsu

I want to master the Schumann Sonata as a personal challenge so that piece will be staying in the programme. I really love Chopin so my dream would be to play the Ballade to honour my last serious performing attempt. In programme 1, I've learnt one of the moments in the Estampes in the past so will help with note learning (which I am very slow at). Thanks in advance for your time and help!

I would personally go with programme 1 because there's more variety. The second programme has three minor key pieces, two of which are heavy Romantic ones. The Estampes are not that difficult really- certainly easier than Chopin Ballade 4 and Takemitsu Rain Tree Sketch (assuming you mean no.1, RTS no.2 is way easier).

Good luck!
