Op. 1: 2 Preludes
on: June 26, 2024, 08:19:24 PM
https://flat.io/score/667b525223c426a4d3bfdd77-op-1
No. 1: Allegretto (~25 seconds)
No. 2: Allegro (~22 seconds)

My first real composition. Thoughts?

Also, I'm using flat.io instead of musescore because I'm getting a new computer soon and don't want to have to transfer musescore over. I should have some stuff up on musescore in about a month. :)

It sounded nice, and you clearly know what textures you want to go for in these pieces. However, I would check your phrase lengths (usually 4 bars). Make sure you know what you're using each measure for as they carry over unnecessarily (this might call for use of some kind of cadenza, if the program allows it). Additionally, I think the preludes need more of a broader form and a more distinct melody or broader polyphony if that's what you're going for. Are you doing any music theory / composition classes? This could be a great foundation and a useful resource if you're in college right now.
last 3 schubert sonatas and piano trios are something else

Well, that's good, at least. :)

I wasn't even aware of this rule before now. Thanks for the heads-up!

I mostly just do this stuff for fun as a hobby. I've gotten a bit more into it this year and plan to possibly take a music theory class next year/semester (I'm not sure how long the class runs). I'm specifically looking at MUS 105: Music Theory through Performance and Composition.
