Music playing non-stop in my head
on: August 03, 2024, 01:37:41 PM
It's usually the pieces I've been playing/listening to.
When I'm not thinking, there's always a piece of music played in my head non-stop 24hrs.
Does anyone experience this?
Is it only me?

Very often, yes. I used it to try and learn to play by ear.

Yes, but it gets much worse when im away from the piano for extended periods of time, sometimes it becomes unbearable, with all the different music, it make me awfully tired and i used to struggle to focus in school sometimes because of it. I was away from the piano for two days last week and all i could focus was on music. The main issue now at the piano, which i find most frustrating, is phrasing. After hearing Yunchans performance of the beethovens 5th concerti, its changed my perspective on piano playing entirely. Everything is about the phrase, the tempo doesnt matter, its the phrase and the point you get across to your listener. That being said, even now in my playing all i think about is phrase and i simply cant find it, it reminds me of stansislav neuhaus saying that music was a elusive blue bird. The phrase, i think, is what seperates pianists, those who are deep (Chopin Liszt)  and history will remember or those with short bursts of virtosity ( thalberg) which leave no significant mark on the human mind.
