I have started piano a year ago, and am looking for pieces to do. I have just finished debussy's arabesque 1 and chopin's nocturne in C sharp minor posth. I was looking at one of the peices from the Well tempred Clavier, but dont know where to start, or if it is the right level for me.
WTC is great. Some of the easier fugues are C minor, D minor, and D major. The corresponding Preludes are a bit more difficult, but they sound pretty good even at pretty slow tempi, so you might pick a P&F pair from those three. Alternatively the C major Prelude is very easy, just arpeggiated chords. More difficult but still pretty simple are the Preludes in E major and Ab major. The Eb minor prelude is a beautiful, sad piece, not to hard to read if the key signature does not bother you. The Bb minor prelude is also quite Romantic sounding and not too hard.
You could also try some 2 or 3 part inventions. The Bb major Partita and Eb Major French Suite are also fun and not too hard. And there are individual dance movements in all the suites and partitas that are pretty approachable.
