10 Minute Performance Repetoire
on: November 22, 2024, 10:49:54 AM
I'm going to participate in a competition. The first round requires 10 minutes of music (must have at least 1 piece by Chopin). I've narrowed down to either the first scherzo or etude op 10 no 4 + 1 nocturne/impromptu by Chopin. Only 4 months left to prepare, do you guys have any suggestions on pieces? Is 4 months enough to learn and polish those pieces?

Hi. Have you played or mastered any of Chopin's pieces yet?

I don't think you're giving yourself the best chance if you're aiming to learn everything from scratch in 4 months. Is there anything you already play that could work?

If you're elite conservatoire level 4 months could be enough, but if you were I don't think you'd need to ask. There are many nice, longer Chopin pieces that put less of a technical demand on you, such as certain of the Polonaises. Maybe the Barcarolle could work.

I haven't played any piece by Chopin for a year. Based on what I have seen, the first scherzo is repetitive so may be it's possible in 4 months?
