Moonlight sonata third movement
on: December 09, 2024, 01:22:50 PM
The first two movements are easy, at least technique wise. The third movement is difficult, but I am capable. I have made good progress in two days (I really don’t practice much every day although I should practice more), but then I stumbled on this marking, a trill above the octave. Does this mean what I think it means?

Depends on what you think it means. I think it does not mean that you need to hold the lower note while trilling on the upper one, and it certainly does not mean that you are supposed to do a double trill at the octave.

I’ll probably watch a recording. You just listed two things I thought it might mean.

I’ve figured it out, you do a trill with three notes on the upper note before doing the grace note ornament thing.

That's typically how I do it. You are free to release the lower note played by the thumb to make the quick movement of the upper fingers easier.
