Richman´s book help...
on: February 27, 2005, 11:57:12 AM
I got Howard Richman´s Super Sight Reading Secrets book (thanks a bunch Bernhard
) and I absolutely LOVE it although I´m having a bit of trouble understanding how to link the Visual Perception Skill levels with the Kinetic Orientation levels. What I could understand was that I had to start off with the K.O.´s levels 1 through 5 and then continue doing 5 jointly with the next levels I reach?? The same goes for the V.P.s
.....
I also dont get what the K.O.#8a is doing beside the V.P. column...
HELP!! I´m really confused...

It is my understanding that the KO and VP drills are to be completed in equal levels. So, start off with level 1 in both KO and VP, and move onto level 2 only when you have mastered level 1 in BOTH areas. That is, you should not be working on level 4 KO if you are still working on level 2 or 3 VP. You continue in this manner until the end of the levels.
You may want to think about working on rhythm reading in addition to this, because my main complaint with Richman's book is that there is very little in terms of developing rhythm recognition. He seems to focus solely on note recognition and keyboard orientation, which is great, but I would recommend that you supplement that with rhythm work as well, because rhythm recognition is very important to sight reading (I think anyway).
Peace,
Bri
