Liszt editions
on: February 28, 2005, 02:05:09 PM
Ive just got the Busoni Liszt edition of the complete etudes.  The page is a bit cramped but Im thinking that Busoni (who published for Liszt society apparently) would be a good editor - it does have alot of info in the preface.  Does anyone have an opinion on this edition?  Can you recommend other Liszt editions?

thanks

Dover split that edition into two books, so they're pretty convenient to work with.  It's a good edition, I find, and the fingering is quite helpful.

Most people will probably recommend EMB (Editio Musica Budapest), probably for the same reasons they recommend Padarewski for Chopin, but I've never gotten around to buying them because I've never needed another edition for the etudes, and EMB is big bucks.

Alfred editions are wonderful student editions with useful historical background information, fingering, and dynamics.  However Liszt's wrote a lot of music.  Alfred covers primarily preadvanced repertoire.

I like Peters for Liszt.  If you see the name Sauer somewhere on whatever edition you find, it's good.
