How to perform as a concert pianist?
on: February 21, 2025, 02:39:29 PM
Hi guys! I know a lot of you guys are very experienced pianists so I was wondering if someone could give me the roadmap or tips on how to perform as a concert pianist. It's honestly been my dream to play with an orchestra accompaniment, but I don't know how to get there. I am 16F and have been playing piano for 11 years now and I go perform at competitions like golden key and AFAB (at Carnegie/Lincoln center)---how do I upgrade from competitions to performing at concerts? Do I need to pay a fee or audition, or do I need to go to music school for that? Thank you all so much  :)

I wish there was an edit button on this app! But I don't mean like FOREVER playing as a concert pianist. Maybe like once or twice or like a few experiences and it doesn't have to be at a big fancy hall. I just like playing music with other people and I would like to hear my Rachmaninoff theme of paginini (op 18) be performed with orchestra accompaniment  ;D

There should be a "modify" option at the top right of each of your posts not older than two weeks (at least I think that's the edit time limit). There's also a similar icon in the bottom right of each post you make that does the same thing. :)

Your piano teacher should be guiding you in this. Have you talked to them?
Your teacher should be assigning you concerti to learn, probably Mozart to start, and if you're good enough, scouting around for competitions for young performers.
Do you have a tiger mom or dad that can help?

There aren't many "concert pianists" on here but you need to talk to a professional piano teacher, one who grooms upcoming concert pianists..
You could also contact the preparatory schools.
Here's a very good one in USA:

Corruption nepotism and a lot of luck

If you go to music school become friends with all the conducting majors.  They’ll graduate and become MD’s for orchestras and ask them to hook you up.

Get yourself a powerful teacher and get on their good side and do the competitions they’re connected with

Okay so if you only wanna do a concerto once or twice in your lifetime maybe don’t go to music school.  Become friends with your local conductors/community orchestras and ask for an audition.

I’ve never won any big competitions and honestly I think they’re a waste of time/money.  You gotta network your way into it.
