the Led is actually Ped, which means pedal. the * means release pedal.

One more thing about this type of notation about pedaling: the "*" and "Ped" take up a lot of space in the score. It is therefore difficult to indicate repedaling, i.e. the quick release of the pedal immediately followed by the quick depressing of the pedal. I would assume that in the example below, the pedal is released and depressed just prior to playing the rolled chord. Moving the "Ped" over to the left, where it probably belongs, would cause it to clash with the note stem. The modern notation ( |_____^___| etc.) is much better.

You're welcome. :)
Yeah you depress the pedal when you see "Ped," and release it when you see the *.
I agree with xvimbi (as usual :)) though, the notation ____^______ is much better.

I really think Bortkiewicz' pedal notation is the best around.
