Debussy Les fees sont d’ecquises danseuses
on: April 18, 2025, 12:23:47 PM
Hello, everyone, I just want to seek some help for Debussy’s 'Les fées sont d'exquises danseuses.' I hope someone can assist me,I am really struggling with this.  Thank you very much!!

1) For bars 1-4, how can I play clearly with 5 notes in 1 quaver? I always find those right-hand semiquavers to sound blurred.

2) For bar 11, which fingerings should I use to play all those quick notes clearly? I currently use 35353, 23232, 45353, 23232, 13232, and 13232.

3) For bars 13-14, what techniques can I use to play all those right-hand notes in time and clearly? Which fingerings should I use? I currently use a 2-3 fingering for all those right-hand notes.

Many thanks!!!!!!!!!

I have never played this before, however for bar 1-4, for clarity, I would practice just doing the right hand quintuplets by themself, making sure they are clear, then adding the two left hand notes. For bar 11, I would personally do 132323 for all of them relying on my 23 trill which is really strong. So I would do 132323 and then for the end of the first trill end on the higher note on fourth finger allowing the third finger to easily start the next trill on the a flat, then on that a flat trill I would end trill on lower note on second finger so third finger can easily start trill on d flat. Hope that wasn’t too confusing ;D. For bar 13-14, I think your fingering is good but when you say that you use 23 for everything how about the last right note in each grouping, I hope you are using a thumb for that! That’s what I would do, hope that wasn’t too confusing!

It's an overall technique issue if you struggle with evenness. Do you have a teacher?

bar 11, I'd use 32 or 53 or a combination, choosing the one for each trill which make sit easier to transition. You don't need to hold the thumb if it's too difficult, play it like a soft staccato 16th and a little bit of pedal.

When you become more advanced you can learn how to hold the note. You can also use 34 and 54 for the trill at that point. But the above suggestion is the easiest option.
