Its not elise, but they spelt it wrong when it was published. She was Beethoven's pupil

It is believed her actual name was Therese, but an incompetent editor misprinted the name on the score!

This thread contains new information for me, but publishers of Beethoven weren't incompetent readers, he was an incompetent writer! His handwriting was awful.

Hi Chopistze!
I saw a draft Beethoven made of the ending of his 9th Symphony and it was unreadable! Just lots of squiggles, dots, and lines.

yeah, i saw beethoven's manuscripts too. some scribbles, and blots, barely readable and very dirty.
just like chopin's. scratches here, scratches there, scratches everywhere, same with dots and ink blots... lines of all sorts, sribbles in circular motion covered a whole measure...
proves it, the dirtier the work, the better!

Hehe! Which leads me to another question - could anybody actually read Beethoven's or Chopin's manuscripts besides themselves? Could the editors decipher them, or did they have to be rewritten into neater forms?

it was a little legible, though, but i'm sure the editors and publishers had a HARD time with them! i've seen berlioz' manuscript, it was neat like mendelssohn's!
bach's probably the neatest of all.

I think that Fur Elise is a very nice song
but it gets annoying how so many people know the 1st phrase of it, but not the rest

Beethoven wrote many pieces for his students, who just happened to mostly be female, seemingly with the intention of..... well, let's just say, I wonder if he got laid by writing pieces for them?

Has anyone seen the movie "Immortal Beloved"? In the movie it showed that Bethoven composed the song for his son (I believe his name was Karl). Oh well, that's Hollywood for you.
