Hemiola in the Largo Appassionato of Beethoven op.2 No.2
on: August 29, 2025, 02:29:41 AM
Does anyone agree thar there are lots of hemiolas in this movement? The first theme is in round binary form. The basic idea (first 2 measures) seems to be in 4/4. In the rrcapitulation, there seems to be 3 ideas. The first is the same that begins the movement, 4/4. Than there is a second ideia in 3/4, in which the true measures begin in beat 2. The last idea is in 4/4 again, ending in the PAC. The second theme also seems to have many hemiolas, but I'm still examining it. Why is it so? Maybe it gives this choral something of the rhytmic freedom of medieval music...
