Help with a niche piece (Scriabin Impromptu)
on: September 20, 2025, 03:21:22 AM
I am currently studying the Impromptu op. 12 no. 2 by Scriabin. I can play through it, but i'm having trouble regarding things like phrasing, tempo, among other interpretive things. For example, the last page feels a little metronomic and "bangy" to me, but i'm not quite sure how I would begin to shape it. Any help would be amazing, especially on the slow section in Gb, which seems feels hard to play pianistically.

My last concern is regarding tempo. The tempo changes a lot through the piece, but not very definitively. I would really appreciate suggestions on where to slow down/speed up, as well as general info about "where" to use rubato.

This is my first Scriabin Piece, so help is really necessary, especially since there's not much about this piece online.
 :) :)

May I suggest you post a recording in the Audition room or in this thread so we can give you feedback on how you are currently shaping it? It's difficult to give a general answer apart from "play musically".

Play everything many times and think carefully about what character the music has, what emotions are conveyed, and how you can express that through your playing in a way that's natural.
