Bach fugue c major bar 12
on: December 19, 2025, 03:01:24 PM
My first post!! Working on Bach c major fugue. Here are two scores one of which is Henle urtext (bottom) and another is a 1924 united board edition. As you see top soprano lines in bar 12 are different. Which is correct?

Henle is Urtext - so well researched based on authentic sources.

This is a funny scenario where the 1924 edition is more "correct" from a compositional craft perspective (I don't know if you are familiar with the concept of voice leading) but to my ears more bland, but Bach chose the less "correct" but more interesting option (the Henle version).

Yep. 1924 version sounds more correct but going to learn the less logical but more interesting urtext!
