on: March 04, 2005, 11:01:36 AM
Hi,

i love Tschaikowskys seasons (opus 37bis) very much.
The twelwe pieces are very nice.
Which are your favorite ones?

In my opinion:

1. August No. 8
2. May No. 5
3. November (No. 11)
4. June (No. 6)
5. October (No.10)

I really like October.  I haven't had a chance to hear the others, though.

if you play each month, how long does it take to play all twelve- a year? hahahahathis is a joke.  ok i should have put it in the joke section.  yes, i think i've heard the seasons (but i thought it was for symphony).  is there a transcription or is it piano version?
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

Hi,

the "Seasons" are written for solo piano by Tschaikowsky.

I don't know who, but somebody else, made a transcription of some pieces for ochestra.

You have to listen to all pieces, they're brilliant. It's the best music I ever heard  :),
I want to play them all, but I think it will take a long time, because they are so difficult to interprete.

just listened today to a few.  i like 'march' since it is march.  i will listen again.  thanks for the topic.  tchaikovsky may be like brahms (in piano writing style) but he was inventive in his flowing melodies.

November.

Why are these pieces called the Seasons yet are split into months?  (I'm not being sarcastic, im deeply curious).

I've heard at the radio that it was an Editor exigeance, they call them "The Seasons" in order to sell the album better (the album was a command, not a "free" work).

My favorites are June (Barcarolle) and, overall, November (the Troika). I' m trying to learn this one just now. This is a fantastic piece in my opinion.

Since Tchaikovsky could barely write for piano, my favorite work of his would be his shortest, most condensed work.  Anything over 2 minutes would be a waste of time.   :P

I think June is a little bit overplayed,
if someone plays Tschaikowksy he plays June or Chason triste.

Does anybody know, which grade August and September is?

Ì had no problems with March, May, June and October

Interesting... so was Tchaikovsky requested to write a set of twelve pieces simply for the sake of publicity?  And why would Seasons sell so much better than Months (especially when Vivaldi had already done this, and that the latter just makes more sense)?

I have Pletnev's version of this work (the CD also include 6 other short pieces).

I like it very much. On a side note, i find Pletnev to be an awesome pianist, with a very personal style.
