HELP! travelling then playing in music fests
on: March 04, 2005, 01:11:08 PM
Hi, does anyone have any experiance with travelling to music festivals then playing without having chance to warm up beforehand? Over the last week i played chopin ballade no. 2 at a music festival only to find my hands were not warm enough to play even after i'd had gloves on and had done plenty of warm up at home. I'm playing in another music fest in a couple of days, does anyone have any ideas how to help resolve this problem?

Best Wishes,

JHawk

warm up home on the piano, use gloves, warm up again on a table (if you can't get a piano) before going on stage.

Thanks..... but i have tried his many times with not much sucess! I'm not sure whether nerves play a major role or not! The music fests ive played at have not had the facilities to warm up on a piano/performance piano beforehand. it could also be as simple as i need to perform more in public,

best wishes

Never stop moving your fingers, and sitting on your hands would warm your hands ;D

True, sitting on your hands will warm them up, but it could also restrict blood flow, causing other problems.

I fill a water bottle with hot water to hold. It keeps my hands warm and is fairly inconspicuous.

When Practice Stagnates – Breaking the Performance Ceiling: Robotic Training for Pianists

“Practice makes perfect” is a common mantra for any pianist, but we all know it’s an oversimplification. While practice often leads to improvement, true perfection is elusive. But according to recent research, a robotic exoskeleton hand could help pianists improve their speed of performing difficult pianistic patterns, by overcoming the well-known “ceiling effect”.
