we need a chatroom!!!!

I will certainly agree that a chat room would be good but really...this is a piano forum....if there was a chatroom then everyone will start talking about other things nothing to do with piano because its so convenient when chatting.

Piano Forum has a number of ways for communication between its members.

• Posting on the boards
• Instant Messaging
• E-mail
• ICQ (I Seek You)
• AIM (AOL Instant Messenger)
• YIM (Yahoo Instant Messenger)

The three last ones are exactly what you need if you want to send an immediate message or chat to someone you see is online at the forum.

You can download them here:
https://www.icq.com (I recommend ICQ Lite to start with)
https://www.aim.com
https://messenger.yahoo.com

You can chose the one you like best or all three. When you have downloaded and installed the program you register and get your own ID number. Fill in this ID number in the appropriate field of your profile here at Piano Forum.
Then other members of the forum can contact you directly for a message or a chat by simply clicking one of the icons in your profile or to the left of your postings.

One little problem is that there are those three different systems and they are not compatible with each other.
So in order to chat with somebody you need the same IM system as he/she has.

My advice for all of you that are new to these messenger/chat systems and would like to use it mainly here at Piano Forum is that you chose ICQ Lite. By doing so you can communicate with each other without having to register for all of the above three systems.

Any comments or suggestions about the choice of ICQ as the standard here at the forum?

most poeple wont come here to do sex chats or aynthing like that.... if anyone comes to the piano forum site.. they're usually serious about the piano..right?
so.. i think i'd like a chatroom.. cuz not everyone has aim , or MSN ,, or icq.. etc etc.

The problem that might arise from having a chatroom is the topic might spiral off quickly, like Frederic said.  With message boards its tidier, since there is a set topic.  

But a chatroom is nice in the way of bringing extra spontaniety, and also giving us all a chance to get to know each other better.

I agree completely!!  I have posted at least twice in the past that we need a chat, and I asked that someone please take this up as a project because I am very computer illiterate, however no one has come forward to say that they would organize one.  But several people have said that it would be a great idea.  I dont know if this helps or not, but I have MSN messenger and Yahoo Messenger.  I really don't want to download anything else!  I can't!  I'm to computer illiterate!  Someone had to do it for me!  We need a chat!!  Let me know!

msn is a reely good idea.

Also some people don't have things like AIM or ICQ or Y!M, but usually when you buy a new computer (windows) it comes with msn, so that saves you the hassel of downloading it

Do you mean ICQ?  That's a form of Instant Messenger, sort of like MSN and Yahoo from what I've heard.  I don't have it myself, so I'm not familiar with it.

I recommend using Trillian as the instant messaging program of choice. Why? Trillian = AIM + ICQ + MSN +.... and the list goes on. Basically, Trillian is a combination of all of these, which means that you can talk to anyone who is on EITHER of these services using the same program!

Btw, a chat room is a good idea. Even if people get off-topic (piano) the forum is always there to be serious.

If you are really attached to MSN, for instance, you can even get a plugin for trillian to make it just like MSN.

I recommend it because if we would use trillian as the standard PF instant messaging client, we can all talk to each other, and still be able to talk to our other friends on any other service using the same program!

I hope the chatroom idea works out and that we will soon be able to communicate in realtime!
