Liszt Hungarian Rapsody no 2, recordings?
on: March 06, 2005, 08:48:45 PM
Hey- What is your favorite recording of Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodie No. 2? I'm trying to find a good one, and I wanted a general idea of everyone's opinions. Thanks.

There are a lot of good ones. Cortot's is pretty good, and so is Horowitz', but he does his own version, of course.

I would vote for Cziffra, Horowitz, or Jeno Jando.

Horowitz is horrific. One of the best recordings I have (period) is of Misha Dichter playing this piece. Hard to find, but I can't stress enough how good it is.

Has anyone listened to the recording available at classicalarchives?
It's by Sergei Glavatskih, Cadenza by Rachmaninoff.
I think it's quite good, it's a free download (if you're registrered, which is free) so go ahead and listen to it if you want.

(They have mostly midi, but there's quite a few live recordings too. Click on the "Free play" to listen.

horowitz is good, cziffra is good, and i love volodos playing it as well( the horowitz transcription that is), well volodos is one of my favourites amongst the new pianists.
but the recording that i liked the most till now is misha dichter, out of this world.
