I wouldn't mind a board dedicated to theory at all.

I also agree.  I could use help with the theoretical aspects of music and I have seen questions floating around almost every board but it is difficult for me to follow and put it all together, without the organization that a seperate board could offer.

Great suggestion, Mayla.

I think that would be very useful.

...But how much theory discussion comes up anyways? I could see that board having six posts per year.

Just ask them anyway.  Put them under Repertoire or Misc.

I just wonder about my time for really being able to get into something.

I like this idea.  Maybe it would encourage others to post their analysis of pieces.

Just create an "index" to keep track of them all.  A thread that tracks them.  That would keep them all in one place.  Could be a sticky.

I have seen a forum that has far too many differnt boards.  No one goes in some of them and they get stale.  Not that an analysis board isn't a good idea.  Maybe there needs to be a large number of analyses for Nils to put one up.

I don't know if that's right, but I'm not bothering to scroll up there.

That would be... no theoretical board?

However, the most important thing is that I win

I see you understand the game ;).

...So then, all nils has to do is add "theory" to the description under the misc. board.

I see the point would be for ease of organization.

And you didn't win Mayla.  I did. :D   I unchecked the "lose" option in the menu, so that means I have to win.  I have a special certificate here that shows I win too.

Bob strikes back.

"Bite me Mayla!"  says Bob.  With maddenous frenzy, Bob creates...

("Bite me" was meant with all due respect in the nicest possible way and was dramatic purposely only.)

(Bob begins worrying that Mayla's post count will soon overcome his own.  Post count is of course the true proof of... something.)

Bobs plan has worked.  Bob has successful distracted the Mayla while creating the analysis hub.   :p

Bob is confused.  Mayla always puts some weird spin on things.

Well, my 2 cents are hiding here:
http://www.pianostreet.com/smf/index.php/topic,17165.msg183881.html#msg183881

There have been suggestions for creating new boards for composing, music theory, analysis and history which are all very good ideas. You will probably see some new boards here within a few months.

BTW, what do you think about putting the analysis/history board as a sub-board of the Repertoire section and the Music Theory as a sub-board of Students Corner?

Subboard would be hard to get to.  I would keep them all out in front.

People are free to post any of this now.  If one board was getting a ton of theory or history threads, then it would make sense to create a new board, but I don't see that happening.  Keep it simple.

I'm still in favor of a button to put all the threads on one mass list, and one to show all messages from the past day (which you can do with the search function but it's a little work).

No!  Absulamente no! :D

Well maybe.  Ok.

Maybe it could be tried.  A test.

Maybe there's a way to do a temporary theme board, like a Mozart board for a month.

Mayla, a sub-board would be a separate board but with the only difference that it is not visable on the main page. Instead the sub-board(s) will be listed above all the topics of the  board it is sorted under.

I think it is a good idea to start with creating a new Music Theory board sub-board and then evaluate the results after a couple of months. If it appears to be positive we can keep it and maybe think about setting up other new boards such as composition etc.

Music theory would probably eat up the student board.  I'd have it live as its own seperate entity.

:-*  ;D

Music theory would probably eat up the student board.  I'd have it live as its own seperate entity.

Since only about 10% of the topics in the Student's Corner is about theory I do not think this will be a problem. Anyway, it can easily be moved to a separate board later on.
