Whitekeys.com announces grand opening  ( Public )
Written by Webmaster
Monday, 28 February 2005
On March 1st, 2005, the phenomenon known as Whitekeys.com was launched by a group of professional musicians, amateur music lovers, and serious music listeners around the world to be the best of the best classical piano resource on the internet. The inspiration of the site came from multiple sources, but every single person involved with the project was dismayed with the unevenness of the level represented by the recordings available on the web. Instead of trying to filter the good from the bad and the ugly, this group of dedicated aficionados wanted to create a brand new resource, and a wholly different approach to the way music is presented and discussed. This site is growing as you read, and will continue to grow, so check back with us often. You are seeing truly a work out of love.

Looks (and sounds) a lot like that other website, PianoSociety.com(?) that you belong to. I really like these sites with free, easy access recording that have good sound quality and excellent recordings. Keep it up!

The difference is that the recording quality requirements for WK are much higher than PS.

Whitekeys.com has moved to a new server on Tuesday, March 15th of 2005. We will also be going back to mp3 encoding, as the response against mp4 encoding has been heard by the administrative staff. Debugging will commence on Wednesday. We are aware of almost all of the typos and non-working links so please do not send us emails regarding those mistakes at this point. They will be corrected as soon as possible, and we will be adding more content within the week. Thank you, and enjoy the music

Excellent site! I am a member.

This is really a good idea. The performances (at least the ones I have heard) are professional and top quality. The record companies are going to fear you some time in the future.

This could be a good way for young coming pianists to promote themselves, is that the idea?

For pianists to go to major record companies are getting more and more superfluous. On one hand the companies are less and less willing to take risks. I also know that concerts pianist don't earn any money from making records; they do it mostly to promote themselves as pianists. The record companies take the money, but give promotion in return. This situation is about to change with the internet.
