Noise Problem
on: March 15, 2005, 01:05:39 PM
Hi! ;)
I have a truble with my piano.
The G (sol) above the middle C does a whistle with the sound (i mean that i can hear a whilste also when i relieve the key G).

The tuner technicain tried to slove the problem but there is still whistle.
He checked the Stirng, the paralyze of the string, the hammer, and still i have the problem.

please tell me what can cause to the whistle?
how to slove the problem?
i need to know more about the problem if i order a technicain.

Thanks
Tomer.

sounds like you have a bird stuck in your piano.  amongst many things i have found in mine (paperclips, pennies, pieces of paper) they were usually between the keys and practically impossible to get out without the vaccum.
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

i never go to the great detail that you are to figure out the problem.  i just call the technician.  sometimes you do save money figuring it out, but i don't know that much about whistles in pianos ( just as i couldn't figure out what was causing my damper pedal to completely collapse and be unuseable - several years ago).  i didn't realize that pianos needed oil here and there in exact spots and hadn't oiled it in years. (never)

They dont'! There are special lubricants for pianos - NOT oil

Try moving the piano and see if the sound is still there. or call the tech back if he says he fixed it and it isn't, or get another tech.

thanks for the correction RPT Lawson!  also, the cause of the damper collapse was internal (a piece of the mechanics was misaligned- and once he fixed it, it worked). and, i vaguely remember him making a point about not using oil - but special lubricant you mentioned.

if you live in southern california, my great technician was borge christiansen.  i don't know if he still tunes, but he was a great tuner.

tried to move the piano to other place and still i have the problem.

there is no leaky damper to the piano.

i tried to block strings and still i have the problem.

it's from all each string of the G.

and i have to say that on G# and F and F# i can also hear a little whilste, but on G is very high.

i don't know if this is important: when i push on some keys for a monent - i can hear that the sound is still little continued and not immediate silent.

** my piano is in a normal place in my home.. not a shelter..

thanks..
