Poulenc - Concert Champetre - PLEASE HELP!!!!
on: March 20, 2005, 11:46:23 PM
Hi everyone,
I was wondering if any of you could help me find a recording of Poulenc's Concert Champetre transcribed for 2 pianos (instead of harpsichord and orchestra).

I have a friend who chose this concert for her exam as she particularly liked the idea that Poulenc transcribed it itself (usually the orchestra/piano transcriptions are terrible).

I would really like to find a recording of the 2 piano transcription as she was given the idea that it does in fact exist.
I tried "googling" it but couldn't find anything.
Can anyone please help?
I would really appreciate it!

Thanks, Joana

i'll try looking.  there are some sites mentioned on the forum here you might also try for 'rare music.'  i just bought a piece for a minimal price (look under Hamelin85's post for purchasing rare music).  it worked for me!
do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

i guess that wouldn't be the recording, but the music itself.  for a recording, i could look at west chester university library.  they have all kinds of records that i think can be burned to cd's.  (unless there's a place on the internet you can listen for free).

oh.  so you live there!  i'll try to look up sites on the internet to make it easier.  i'm no computer genius, but have happened upon some good sites (and my husband and son are into the computer).  will look.

Dear Zohia,

you may already know this, but  try:
www.emiclassics.com/groc/releases11/poulenc.html

this is a great recording of the century featuring poulenc himself, jacques fevrier, aimee van de wiele, and maurice durufle.  hope you can order it!

ps i found out by reading the emi tag that the concerte champetre was the first of  poulenc's major works and was written for and inspired by wanda landowska (the great polish harpsichordist).  aimee was her pupil.

Hi again! :)
Unfortunetely that recording features the Concert Champetre's version for harpsichord and orchestra, and what I'm looking for is the transcription for piano and piano (I know there is a recording somewhere, I just couldn't find it yet ???).

Thanks, Joana

P.S.: If you come up with anything else, please let me know!

dear Zohia,

sorry about the recording not having what you are looking for.  when i looked, it said two pianos.  i'll have to check.  maybe it was two pianos for the first piece and not for concert champetre.

today am going to wcu library, so i will look there.  it is not as large as some libraries in europe, so you may find it nearer yourself.  do you have any idea who might have transcribed it?  would poulenc have actually written it both ways?  i will look under poulenc first.

Poulenc also wrote a concert for two pianos and orchestra, that was what you saw.
Poulenc transcribed concert champetre itself as someone told me.

Thanks, Joana
