Recommondations for Music theory Books
on: March 24, 2005, 04:00:28 AM
Are there any recommondations for books on music theory, in particular I am working on late baroque music with counterpoint. I have a couple of books on counterpoint but my understanding of harmony is a bit weak.

A workbook would be fine then I could work examples out with my teacher.

Ah yes I was just about to ask about counterpoint too. Does anyone happen to know of any sites that would help in explanation etc? Thanks in advance =)

Hmm this site I found after a brief search using Google. Not very detailed, and still looking forward to responses. =)

at my community college we use the Harmonic Materials in Tonal Music part 1 and 2 (9th edition) by Paul O. Harder (Greg A. Steinke)
isbn 0-13-091073-2 (part 1) and isbn 0-13-033197-X (part 2)

well i think its a pretty good book because its REALLY easy to read and its geared for self teaching

when i was taking the classes i never really read the book ;o my teacher was explained things very well that it wasnt nessacary to read the text.

(btw if this has already been posted than my bad i didnt check to see )
