excepting falling and breaking a hip, i don't think i'll be laid up for a few years.  when you have a family to take care of, you don't have time to get old.  if you focus on other people, work hard at what you do, and stay active and passionate...at least as you get older you won't get senile and all that stuff that comes with boredom.  good for your grandfather to stay active - and social!!  my grandmother was like him and just wouldn't quit.  she climbed the chilkoot trail three times (amongst other hikes) - found a boyfriend at like 75 (after her 2nd husband died) who followed her around like a schoolboy - and they had various assundry sailboating excursions where they were gone for days and no one knew where they went.

i don't mean to brag, but i sit at the chiropractors (while my son gets adjustments due to heavy backpack - and we're learning to adjust the pack and the shoulder straps) with crossed legs.  then i go home and eat something that has butter in it.  i try to ride my bicycle down hillls very fast, and can manage to get up a hill almost as bicyclists half my age (albeit not as fast).  passed up an 'iron man' jersey the other day and said 'see you later iron man.'

if i die soon, it will not be natural occurance.

do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

yes, the only thing that bothers me is my heart.  sometimes i think of a friend of my mom's that died at 42.  so, if i get light headed or dizzy, i try to drink some water and sit down.  heat is a stress for me.  but, as you get older you have to accustom yourself to all the different weathers or it is really bad.  when i lived in the desert - i went outside anyway (despite extreme lethargy when returning).  if you drink lots of water, at least you don't dehydrate.

motto:  if you can't take the heat, go in the shade

yes, the only thing that bothers me is my heart.

Well, that's a fairly critical piece of plumbing.

As for a motto, here's one that seems to be true for me lately....

Same ****, different pile.
Don't let your music die inside you.

bob, what about strength and honor?  you know that comes from prov. 31 about the virtuous woman.  of course, it goes for valor and strength for men, too.

'but, above all, get wisdom..."   this is a hard saying, because usually the wise don't speak too much.  have you ever met a really smart person and had to keep the conversation kind of rolling - whilst they ponder each thing you say (as well as taking in extra-sensory information).

i don't know...maybe something inbetween.  not too stuffy, not too stupid - just basic english.  unless you speak spanish - in which case you can use more hand movements be just a bit more dramatic.  i think the french and italians take the cake.  no one seems to care if they ramble.

These four are good ones to live by:

Whatever you do in life doesn't matter.

There is no god.

There is no good.

Everyone and everything will eventually die.

What I dont understand is people who think "everything is possible". If everything were possible, then it would be possible that not everything was possible, which contradicts the given. And yeah, a lot of things are impossible, like me receiving 1 million dollars....yesterday.

My own personal motto, which I think is very relevant to music especially:

"Be yourself, then nobody can say you're doing it wrong."

Also, a fun one:

"Burn out, don't fade away."

Linked to that:

"The star that burns twice as bright, burns half as long."

That one worries me slightly, 'cos if it's true, I'm buggered, figureatively speaking.
