Pls enlighten - Noisy hammerheads
on: March 29, 2005, 01:04:41 AM
Jus had my new 121 upright delivered. But I don't recall the hammer release being so noisy when I tried at the showroom. I can hear each hammer's hollow drop as I release every key. Is it jus the inferior felts used by their China factory? I suspect 'wat I tried on was not wat I got'. Apparently this company has been around for 25 years in Singapore, which was why I trusted it. It's even giving 25 yrs guarantee for the piano! Anyone in Singapore having the same experience?

Possibly the hammers are not voiced correctly?

What "121" ? Is "121" a model number? What's the brand name?
What you mean you did not get what you tried? Did you note the serial number of the piano you "tried"? Is the serial number written on your puchase order and/or invoice? If you want to get the exact piano you tried, noting serial number is the surest way to go.
Though for the life of me, I cannot think of any piano manufacturer that gives 25 years "guarantee." (Or do you mean "warranty"?) Some Young Chang models have 15 years warranty and I thought that's about the extreme.

121 is the height of my new piano - exam model 121 cm. Guarantee is on parts & labour for 25 years
except damage by natural pests (termites, woodworm, etc). Wat I meant was, the quality of the internals at the showroom was different from the quality they delivered.

Makes sense, many piano makers now use the height of the piano as (part of) model name, or the length of the piano in the case of grand. Though I'm still curious about the brand name of your piano. (Unless you meant the brand name is "exam" when you wrote "exam model 121 cm.")
As for "guarantee" versus "warranty," I suppose that's just a matter of regional language differences, like you say "flats" where we say "apartments," "faucet" versus "tap," that sort of thing.
(And I still cannot think of any piano manufacturer who would guarantee parts and labor for 25 years.)
