You want to get goose bumps about what's inside of you, watch Monsters Inside Me on Discovery.  It's about all the nasty parasites people pick up.   You may never eat sushi again.

I'm wondering why they can't just suck up the oil in the Gulf with a giant vacuum of some kind.  The longer they wait, the more the current pushes it around.  It's obvious where it is.  Can't they just suck it up somehow? Filter the oil out of the water they suck up?

Nevermind.  I see.  It's like an open wound, spilling oil out.

Then they will probably look for the next competition...  :-X

Anyway, I think there is not any more or less reason to say men are complicated than women are complicated. It depends imo entirely on the specific chemistry between the respective two individuals.

I see Nashville, TN is flooding.  The Grand Ole' Opry flooded.

Dark humor....  ::)  Some might say... religious people... that it could be God saying something about his preference for country music....

Tears in beers will be lost in the flood.  Dolly will be safe.  No concerns about drowning for her.  I hope they don't start spreading out, spreading country music around.  Plenty of inspiration for more songs though.

(Bob is not a big country music fan.   ::)  Or a little country music fan.  Or any kind of country music fan.)  It does sound like a bit of a biblical sign.  'Subtle' biblical commentary on country music that way.   ::)  Biblical way of saying shaddup.

Hi Bob,

Guess where I live? That's right...Nashville, TN. And while I don't like country music (I do like bluegrass quite a bit), I don't think any of what you write about is in good taste, even if you're aiming at good humor (which admittedly you often successfully get.) I've never seen anything like this. I have MANY friends who are DIRECTLY effected by this natural disaster. There is nothing biblical about it...it is a really, really, really bad disaster destroying the lives of thousands of many real people. It's hard to comprehend. I KNOW PEOPLE WHO HAVE LOST EVERYTHING. Please show some respect. We're all in deep pain right now in TN.

(You know there's a lot more than country music here, don' you? We have a very good concert hall with a great orchestra which is getting international recognition.)

Have we ever had weather like this or is it global warming?  Three months of rain in 48 hours in TN?

There has always been weather like this, and there will always be weather like this. There was a much greater flood effecting many states including TN in 1927. Technological advances both in structures themselves, and in warning systems have saved so many lives in not only floods such as this, but tornadoes, hurricanes, earthquakes, volcanoes, etc. The death toll for this flood is now 11, and this is very sad; these people are gone and will never return, and their families and friends suffer greatly...but the majority of these were preventable, the product of foolish risks which did not have to be taken.

Look at the death tolls in hurricanes through the years in America, but also compare places who don't have the infrastructure: https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/HAW2/english/history.shtml

Besides that, I understand your distaste for country music. That's all fine, but to say "I don't think the Grand Ole Opry is much of a loss..!" I wish you would say this to the face of those who have lost so much! It does not take into account the people who are directly hurt by this, the people who work there (several of whom are close friends of mine) and the damage to tourism and the economy. These are real people, even the artists themselves, no matter what you think of their art. I will say too that across the board they are very respectable people, but all of that's besides the point.

While it did a lot of damage, it think it is not the loss as you think. It will temporarily move to the Ryman where it originated and will be there until the Opry is repaired. Its streak will continue. The lovers of country music will have their country music...don't you hate that? :D

I should tell you also that these musicians themselves are real musicians whose talents extend further than country music. With the fiddler for Randy Travis I have played Mendelssohn's 2nd Trio in concert, read through much chamber music with him in private, and in November will play a program including Ewazen's trio for trumpet, violin, and piano, Eduard Steuermann's ravishing transcription for piano trio of Schoenberg's Verklärte Nacht and one of Joaquin Turina's trios. He gave me scores to music he's interested in reading through this summer, and these include Bartok's 1st violin sonata (my all time favorite piece of music), Schnittke's 1st violin sonata, Schoenberg's Phantasy, and John Adam's Road Movies!!! He goes on tour with Randy Travis and works on this stuff on his off time! (He also plays wicked cool fiddle licks at breaks in our rehearsals.)

Bob, based on words on a screen, I have always liked you and been entertained by you, and I have no doubt you'll continue to be entertaining...but you're making my angry today! SHOW SOME RESPECT PLEASE!!!! :)

What my dream and talent is in. I've had a passion for doing all these things
becoming a virtuoso pianist/composer
becoming a songwriter/famous singer
becoming a neuropsychologist
becoming a psychologist
becoming a fast competitive swimmer
becoming a famous equestrian
becoming a clothes designer...

I'd combine one of the mentals with a music and for example swimming, songwriter/singer, designer, equestrian, etc. I just don't know what to do anymore.

The flood's sad.

It just sounded a little biblical  to hear the Grand Ole Opry was flooded out.  I'm sure they will rebuild that.

Sorry if I was offensive.  The GOO is... ugh.   Hopefully GOOne.

I am not on facebook so I don't know if this will work. I just copied and pasted the link and emailed it to myself. I cannot play it, but if you're on facebook maybe you can play it. It is a video shot by a TN police officer who is related to a friend. It is the amazing power of water, destroying a roadway. I ate dinner with a friend who didn't get any damage, but lives half a mile from a stretch where the Harpeth river washed 6 houses off their foundation...just swept them away.

Tell me if it works.

Actually it may have to do with what we call "virtual reality" which is in some sense again an actual reality since TV came up, if not already before. Some people seem sorta not used to real life and that it may be indeed *real* that there are people suffering, dying and losing all their property and stuff. But it IS *real*. Every day, every minute, every second. And the horror of the *real* reality beats the virtual reality by far. Which might be the reason for our attempts to escape from the former into the latter.

Yes Dave, your video link works fine, at least for me.

I'm wondering why lots of things in education are always a big crisis and emergency.  I think the whole time I've been in it I keep hearing about all the national crises and dire emergencies, yet nothing really seems to change.  I don't see any really negative outcomes.  Things don't really seem any better or worse.

I'm also wondering why that NY car bomber guy is already going to trial.  I think that's what I heard.  I would think they should stick him last in line -- Lock him up, question him, then make him wait a few years if other people have already been waiting for court cases to actually appear in court.  Commit the crime and then have a trial only a few days later?  I would think if it's really that high level of serious that it would some time to get a solid case together -- as in months to a year.  Not a few days.

Ask the teachers union.

Re that NY bomber; think about what we would have done had that plane actually left the ground or the pilot gunned it and took off anyway?

I'm not quite buying that they were on top of it the whole time.  I don't think they would have let him get on the plane.

Education crises must give people something to do and think about.  Something people can worry about in common.

Back to the bomber... I'm really wondering how he got through security so fast too.  I wouldn't have been surprised if they caught him waiting in line -- Like him standing in line for five hours waiting to get on the plane and that's where they catch him.  Speedy plane boarding?  Speedy trial?  That doesn't sound right.

Favorite quote of the week:

"You can be less than mediocre and be a movie star," he says. "I have respect for very few actors and actresses. Some of them get a lot of acclaim but just because their movie made $200 million at the box office; they still suck. I got no respect for them and I used to let them know it. It was important for me to put that aside and go, 'You know what? This is a business.' So, now, I just keep my mouth shut and pet my chihuahuas."

Oh chihuahuas.... I thought it said chinchillas.  (Bob would prefer to pet chinchillas.)  It not as amusing now.

I'm wondering how Greece has that much influence over the Western economy.  It's Greece!  I can't even think of anything they produce.  Olives?  Giros?  Maybe it's an ancestral effect.

Right now they are producing a "freak out."

Less than 6 months ago a Euro was worth around $1.50. Today it is worth close to $1.25.

They are the "G" in PIGS, Portugal, Italy, Greece and Spain. All have taken more from the common benefit pot than they have contributed.

I'm thinking those music numbers don't sound so bad.  You could survive off that.  It's probably one of those studies that so vague it becomes meaningless.  I would guess "music" also means teaching.  When I first glanced at that I thought they meant income from performing music.  Even on the low end, if I was making 30 grand a year just from performing I'd be very happy with that.  Worst "monetary" career, although it's still a career.

Thinking about how much I hate the stupid little Dell laptop I bought as a spare last year.   I'm passing my old iPod along to my piano teacher and loaded my entire classical library onto it for him.  Then I realized it's formatted for Mac and he's a PC user.  So over to the stupid little Dell laptop and it is the slowest, most infuriating machine I've ever seen!   I swear my daughter's Bratz laptop could handle this better!

It's my doggy's birthday today!  :D Well he is my angel now... And for more than a week it has been raining every day but today it wasn't and the sun was shining  :) that's because it's my doggy's birthday!!!! :) Happy birthday the best doggy in the universe!!  :-*   :)
Tomorrow I will have a lot of music school!  :) First I have my piano lesson and then music theory because we will have it twice a week this month (until the exam).

We will have a cake and everything this saturday (or sunday) for my doggys birthday :)  :P . (and it was also my cat's birthday  and my guinea pigs birthday in the beginning of may  :D ) And we are taking care of another doggy now so there will be a lot of animals celebrating :)

Now I'm supposed to eat lunch but I'm not hungry at all! And my mum is angry because I ate too much chocolate before.... and now i can't eat anything anymore!  ::)

Why is that?  :-\ I don't like being mixed up with someone!  :( I just wanna be me!
yeah I know that's cause you think we're both stupid and annoying.  :(
But I think she is a teenager. I don't wanna be mixed up with teenagers! I don't understand them very much! All their boyfriend and girlfriend stuff and nice clothes and wearing make-up and looking all nice all the time. yuck! (and I'm afraid of them too cause some can be really mean sometimes!)

I'd never mix up these two, lol  ;D They are all but similar. And I like littletune. Well lucy is funny, sorta. Anyway I think lucy is a fake account. She's too much teenie to be real. But perhaps I'm wrong.
