Why not just learn a couple more P&Fs. You did such a wonderful job with the last one, that is more likely to please him than anything else.

Evidently Gould had the same feelings towards his first Goldberg.

Incidentally, It doesn't. Not even a tiny bit.

He's about. Last logged on earlier today.  He's either being vewy vewy quiet, or having trouble getting a word in edgeways.

My opinion that is completely unsupported by and facts I could find, is that IQ tests cater to those with a "math brain".  Math is typically more logical, and most of the IQ questions are about figuring things out that you don't already know.  Even the verbal section is just word based logic.  Although, I guess they combined the older IQ test with the spatial battery test I took ages ago, so you need to be able to visually manipulate objects in your head.

An IQ test only predicts how well you will do in academic work. It's validated with other students. Adult life will require different skills...

I would say it's more the potential to do well in academic work.  Adult life definitely requires different skills (social...) but academic work is reliant on effort just as much as intelligence.  Screw that 90/10 crap people usually spew.

I haven't taught languages, history, psychology or any of the other soft subjects.  I have been a TA and helped make/grade the tests for math and statistics as well as quantitative economics.  Correct answers count for 50%, showing work and explaining your logic counts for a potential 50%.  IQ isn't black and white where you are either a genius or dumb as rocks.  At the super high end, almost no effort is needed to get the right answer.  In the middle/high range you still need to put at least some effort, it won't necessarily be intuitive.  IQ then is a potential indicator, not an absolute indicator.  It's silly to think the laziest POS in the world with the highest IQ is going to get perfect scores.  He still has to show up to class...

Dad:  Where the heck did those scratch marks come from?

Me:  What the heck are you talking about?

Dad:  Those freaking scratch marks on your back!  >:(

Me:  I don't know, they're probably stretch marks or something.  What the heck are you talking about... ???

*Dad walks to his room*

Dad:  Dang, I guess he's at that age now...

*I over hear him*

Me:  What are you talking about?

Dad:  Hey, don't mess up.

Me:  What?!  ???

Dad:  Just don't mess up.

That's the grading part. Now think about making the test to evaluate your students. Think about which questions to ask. Should we ask 10 killer problems and see if we have some sort of genius in our midst? Then what about the rest of the sloggers who can't even start to answer the first question? How much did they learn?

I have no idea where you're going with this.  My comment was about an IQ test evaluating potential to perform, not ability to perform.  Class tests aren't the same thing.  They are to evaluate your ability to perform what you've learned in class.  They aren't designed to make the entire class fail while having one kid pass just to see who is smart.  Class tests are made so that the 95th percentile should ace it and the bottom 5th percentile should fail it.  Why? Because scores are meaningless if they aren't comparable. IQ tests are also comparable in that they compare potential.

An IQ test only predicts how well you will do in academic work.

All I've said is that this comment isn't completely accurate.

IQ score     = potential
Class score = performance
Potential =/= performance
Hence,
IQ score =/= Class score
QED <--- couldn't help myself.

I will win the heart of Valentina Lisitsa.  Then with her by my side, I will revive Scriabin and fulfil his destiny by performing his Mysterium on the top of Mt. Everest and end the world!!!
What makes you think that it's up for winning? Have you not heard of Alexey Kuznetsov? Will you use the Nemtin version of Mysterium? And the most important question - haven't you got some practice to do?...

Yes.  Duh on me.  The original doesn't have the bottom part.  I'm not an art expert.

Here's another version...

I was thinking if you turn that into a moving gif is it destroying the original?  If part of the "essence" of the original was that it was in unmoving paint but it can produce effect/feeling of movement still... That would be lost if it were turned into a moving gif.

Yes.

I would say it is. The original produced the effect of movement without movement, which would be destroyed if movement were added. And no, the bottom part isn't there in the original. And also, strangely, no movement appeared on my computer.

I'm stunned! Where did everybody go to school? Is it the case these days that recognizing a masterpiece is not taught? There aren't that many great artists in the top tier.

I went to MIT, but I can recognize most masterpieces.

Everybody should. At least recognize the styles. I don't know all the masterpieces but at least I can spot the style. There are still a lot pieces in private collections.

Years ago we were cleaning out an attic and came across a small painting which was done very well.  We didn't recognize the artist but because it was so good we took it for a free appraisal. They put it up at auction and we put a couple of bucks into our pocket.
