I saw boxes of peaches at the store today.  It made me think of goldentone.  Haha.

I'm wondering what causes a global effect for me.  It seems like I make progress or have bad days with piano, exercise, etc.  All at once.  I'm not convinced it's really anything I do during practicing that does it, except that sometimes I'm able to push things more and get results.  Other times, a push might be too much and it would break things.

So what causes that?

Global effect... global cause...?

Sleep?
Nutrition?
The body devoting energy to recovering in one area at the expense of others?

If it's something like sleep or food.... Just get more and have good days.  Control it that way.

The global effect is uber important.  Figure that out...?  And you get free progress possibly?  Like sleeping an extra hour translates into progress without any additional effort.

I didn't translate the German on that 'Deconstructed Piano' video.  Why isn't the piano actually catching on fire?  Looks kind of surgical...

Those are the kind of robots I'd like to have around just to hold things, like a light, or flip piano music pages.  "Robot Arm!  Hold this!"  They'd nee gesture recognition to know when to flip pages though.  And if they could read music that would be good too.  Page turners would be out of business.

Oh I see.  Thanks Google translate.... Hot air blowers, fast motion pictures over 8 hours.  I thought the motion kind of looked weird.

Yes... Thanks Google translate...  ::)  "yes stunk hats properly."

Something small would probably stop.  But maybe if it was a large beach ball... You could roll it all the way down to the valley.  That would be amusing.

I got one...

Completely floors me.  People, esp. intelligent/logical/even scientific people, who probably or must believe in something scientific, but just don't believe in evolution.  They reject the concept of evolution.  I was never aware that was an option.  It kind of sounds like if it were math, algebra is ok, but you don't believe in geometry.  Just seems bizarre.

I have to admit that personally I have never been able to understand how it is possible to combine rational thinking and seemingly high intellect with regilous beliefs. So I've stopped trying... I'm sure there are aspects of my inner world that make no sense to other people.

This is not as bizarre as it seems. The concept of "evolution" is in itself not pure enough to be really scientific. Many of its assumptions simply do not bear scrutiny. So, if some rational people are given only 2 options: either "creation" or "evolution", they may reject both as fairy tales because they do not want to follow anyone with a mission.

It's not even a philosophy; it's a theory, and it seems to have been set up solely to prove that the other theory is not true. That is not the task of science if you ask me.

You misunderstand my question. Philosophies of Science are attempts to define what is and isn't science; a surprisingly contentious field. You implied that purity was a requirement for something to be scientific, but I am unfamiliar with that being a requirement in any of the philosophical approaches with which I am familiar.

Incidentally, to the (limited) extent Darwinian Evolutionary theory was set up to prove another theory was untrue, that theory was Lamarckian evolution, not creationism.

OK. Maybe "pure" was the wrong word choice. Let's say evolution as a theory is not "scientific" enough in its assertions to be taken seriously enough by some rational people because of the assumptions you need to make for the theory to be true. You also need to close your eyes to scientific evidence that contradicts certain findings.
P.S.: "Pure" in this context to me means that it is what it says it is.

What do you suggest that it asserts? What assumptions do you suggest it makes? What scientific evidence contradicts it?

Whilst it is often misstated, and often extended analogously to inappropriate areas, as a theory in biology it seems to me pretty robust. Of course, at the edges there is argument about details, but the same is true of any field of science.

Wow! I'm not a biologist so I won't go there. In layman terms and to limit this to only one idea: it has been proven that life comes from life, but evolutionists insist that life can come from non-life. This is enough for me to cause suspicion because it hasn't been proven; only assumed.

I guess 8 people though.  And it might not be true (I'm wondering about the Bush one).   I think it's the Ben Stein one that surprises me.  And then the idea that a politician wouldn't think evolution was true.

*Bob considers not believing in Australia.*  I've never seen it myself.  Looks kind of tacked on a map or globe.  And kangaroos and koalas?  Really?  Platypuses?  Those seem a bit far fetched too.

Considering jmenz is my future self, I'd probably try to throw people off.  I could see myself saying I was actually in some imaginary land.  And then Ted... I'm going to make him English.   I got kind of an English vibe.

I'm going to go with Australia being made up by the English too.  That's why everyone's English there.  Maybe it was something they did to get people to behave... "Be good.  If you're a criminal, you'll end up in Australia."

Ben Stein's quote is about "darwinism" (=focus on natural selection), not about "evolution" as such. I don't know him, but I'd give him the benefit of the doubt as to what exactly he believes or rejects. :)

I forgot about New Zealand....  I've seen Lord of the Rings.  Looks pretty real, but still different... And it's Europe.  I've seen maps.  I'm going to go with... New Zealand is actually Europe but in a different dimension.

Here's a map of New Zealand.

It's an older map (you can tell because it's tinted).  Everything's not perfectly accurate on older maps.  Plus, in another dimension things wouldn't happen exactly the same, so the shoreline could actually be different.  Reminds me of France and Spain for this section of the map.

Actually, I'm not sure evolutionary theory strictly requires that, though it traces all life back to very simple forms.

Actually, I'm not sure evolutionary theory strictly requires that, though it traces all life back to very simple forms.

The problem is not the data and the experiments in themselves, but how they are interpreted and sold as the truth. Upon closer inspection, for example, the "simple" forms seem to be far more complicated than the not-so simple forms.

The idea that the ancestor of both ape and human must have been ape-like is now also disputed by some Harvard anthropologist who wrote a book "The Upright Ape". It's not even funny to see how the "experts" on science forums reject any critical thinking concerning the established order and call anyone who asks critical questions a "creationist", an "ignoramus", or an "idiot". Too religious for comfort, really.

In general, they should simply man up and admit they don't know really, but hey: how would they get further funding in such a way? Instead, to fill in the gaps and to cover up the holes in their theories, they think up terms like "junk DNA" (waved off as "insignificant" to the explanation), which is now gradually proven to actually contain the key to the differences and to the answer why some species simply cannot evolve ever into certain other species if there is no possibility of interbreeding and/or if no third party (for example humans) is involved.

If we are not supposed to believe in miracles (untestable hypotheses), then why should we automatically swallow incorrect inferences from correct data?

Pain is motivating.

Chronic pain...?  Even more motivating?  You could probably even have less pain overall, but if it's constant.... It becomes like the Chinese water torture effect.  A little bit of pain..... always present.  That's got to be just as motivating as knowledge of impending pain or live pain.

If  skipped practicing yesterday and just went to bed early, but then woke up at 2am and started practicing... Does that put me really far ahead or really far behind?  It feels like both.

I suppose it depends if I sleep more today or practice again today.

Major lack of energy these past two weeks.

*Bob considers the seasons are changing... Light it different... If he's getting less sunlight now...  Bob concludes this means he's Superman, and he decides not to tell anyone.*  Except not quite to that extent.  This is like the ultra-low-low-low mortal, everyday version.  *Bob considers that he was wearing suntan lotion when he was outside though.*   Wouldn't that pretty much stop Superman?  If he put on sunblock?  Not more rays from the sun, no more super powers.  Or if he stayed inside all day, wouldn't have some deteriorating effect?

*Bob considers his batteries may just be recharging...*

Yes... It feels like I'm operating at 80-90% (or something, maybe willpower) just to do nothing.  Even typing this now is seeming like a certain amount of effort.

Is there an app for that?

Heh.  No, you must buy the physical watch, which is (not too hard) to find, i.e. Amazon or the marketplace.  Charlie goes around the cog once every minute.

Not a real vintage collectible, as I read.  Almost could cry.
