Do I take it that you mean that you mean you won't ever again admit to English being other than your first language?(!)...

Well, at least this is not an example of your first language!

Well, the word "admit" might have some overtones of "confess" or "plead guilty". Surely one's use of English isn't something to 'plead guilty" to, even if the level one has might be a crime.... ;)

English being what someone once called a repository of contrived obsequiousness, the word "admit" may be used in contexts quite other than confessing or pleding quilty to something; to "admit" something or someone can mean to let that thing or person in, without conveying any necessary sense of accompanying guilt. As someone else said when asked why she had chosen to teach English as a foreign language, "because that's what it is!"...

I was thinking that if Poundstretchers merged with Marks & Spencers, you would have a company called Stretchmarks.

Nice one! - and equally appropriate for the new "jokes" thread, perhaps; mind you, I daresay that some people less than familiar with UK company names might think that Poundstretchers is a kind of catch-all descriptor for British banks...

I'm wondering why there aren't more polite but nasty people in the world.

And how Karli's audition results came out.  Maybe she needs an agent/promoter type of person.

No dice !  Not even the dress convinced them ... hee hee  ;D.  Thanks for asking :).

Yes, actually, at some point I will (IF, IF, that's the road I want to take).

Right now though, I am just happy to not be thinking about it and to be practicing my piano pieces to take to my magical teacher in less than two weeks !!  :o 8)  *yikes*

(Bob makes note not to wear a dress at his next audition.)  Done.  That was close.

I'm thinking about fresh sea scallops and fresh limes.  MMmmm.  Actually I'm doing more than think about them.  I'm eating them.  But the lime.... (Bob faces puckers in.)

mmmm ... fresh sea scallops are pretty darn good, I have to admit !  Now I am pining over seafood ... mmmmm ...

Well, let's see.  I think I am realizing some actual disappointment about not getting cast.  While I don't love the feeling and I honestly don't know what to do in my life right now, I guess it's a good thing for me to realize if something disappoints me or not.  I can't seem to comprehend how to get to the kind of life it seems I need to be living.  I can't help but feel some kind of frustration about that.  And I feel like I am needing to somehow completely redefine myself and my life ... and that is exciting but scary at the same time.  I am realizing some kind of feeling of having been living under an illusion.  I guess I am ready for some portion of that to go away.

Thanks, Thal !!  You're right !   I should really get out there sometime soon.  I think it's not as complicated as it seems.  I keep wishing I could quit one instrument and keep trying to talk myself into it (though it's mainly just singing that I wish I could quit), and it just never actually gels.  I think I need to just accept that I can't seem to function quite right without both, and start from there.  I need to mold the rest of my life around that, if/when I can.  Things will be changing a bit in about a week or so, and DO have some kind of choice in how many other things I take on !  I just need to keep making the decisions that chisel me towards what I know I need to be doing.

I blew my own audition, and I know it.  I am vocally out of shape, didn't bother to learn an actual piece from the Opera that they were auditioning for, and there were probably numbers of talented individuals who ARE in great vocal shape, who DID learn the actual arias, for whom they KNEW it really mattered to them and made the time in their life for it.  They *should* get the role !!  I can accept that.

So, I can accept that I want to sing, that I didn't put enough into it (though I sang decently for the circumstances I put myself under), that I need to work smarter and harder if I want to keep doing this ... and that I need to keep making decisions in my life that help my day-to-day life reflect who I am inside.  I simply am insisting on Intelligent Design, in that, if I am a musician and a person whose expression of life in this "round" needs to include singing AND playing, then there are right ways for that to be happening.  I have no other choice but to simply insist on this, and follow where that insistence leads.  In the meantime, it's very important that I am grateful for all my life is and has been so far.

I am very grateful to my teachers and friends and family :).

Cheers !

You can either try to master one instrument or be average on a few.

I chose the latter, but it took a long time to realise that such is the effort required for mastery, one can only really endeavour to master but one instrument.

I am not aiming to master an instrument, and I am not even aiming to master music.  I am actually aiming to master my own thoughts; to master my own self and my life-experience.

You are a complex girl and i cannot help but feel that you spend too much time thinking and perhaps not enough time doing.

If you are not already master of your own self, then who is?

Have a few beers, take the dog for a walk and treat yourself to a few choccies.

Maybe K doesn't drink beer in multiple doses, possess a dog, eat chocolate or any combination of those things (I know that I don't do any of them apart from the very occasional indulgence in a tiny amount of chocolate, but then it's not me that we're talking about here)...

Thal, your post made me want to have beer and hot dogs for dinner!
It momentarily made me wonder what's so great about a dog's dinner or a dog; I don't need to wonder about having beer, for I know how utterly horrid that is for me, for all that I can admire (at a respectable distance) some of the great "real ales" made in England...

Thanks for the offer, Thal, but it would convert me into a "really ailing" one, I fear; I just cannot abide the stuff (beer in general, that is, not any one in particular) - which is not at all the same as saying that none of it's any good. And what was it that Ogden Nash said? - I think it was something like "dog is man's best friend, but women make better wives"...
