Scarlatti...where to find Kirkpatrick editions.

My teacher HATES the Longo edition, and its the only one I own (I have the cd of all of scarlatti's sonatas).

Anyone know where I can find a free edition of kirkpatric online or anything like that.

Also...a list of K to Longo and Longo to K would be nice, thanks!!

do you know why benches fall apart?  it is because they have lids with little tiny hinges so you can store music inside them.  hint:  buy a bench that does not hinge.  buy it for sturdiness.

Not exactly a "list" but it will get you to the same point.

Also, I created a graded repertoire spreadsheet that was uploaded to the forum.  That spreadsheet has a tab that has the Longo Kirkpatrick stuff in it.  Do a search for graded repertoire and you should be able to find the post.  I'll search real quickly and see if I can get here.

Unfortunately, the nobody has scanned the Kirkpatrick edition yet, even though it's out of copyright now.

There are quite a few of them at www.sheetmusicarchive.net, but unfortunately they're quite ugly. Ask your teacher to find "good" editions, rather than you. You're paying the teacher, right? So they have to know where to find good editions, and they should provide you with one. :)

What's wrong with the Longo Edition? One could simply dont' pay attention to all the  romantic style additions on the dynamic, phrasing, etc, and find with the teacher's guide a better approach.  It's what I do. Is it not enough?

We found ours through a local university library- the editions are by a French publisher Huegel & Cie, edited by Kenneth Gilbert.  There are 11 volumes that contain all 555 sonatas.  Bernhard also recommended a cd that had all the Scarlatti and Haydn sonatas on it!  Regards,Lani

Yeah, I dunno, he says that Longo actually added extra notes in places....if thats true I can't imagine its anything more than small embellishments, and that wouldn't detract from the essence of the piece.

If you read the critical notes in vol.2 of Kirkpatrick's edition, you'll find that Longo even omitted bars.  :o
