Page File (PF) use by the Piano Forum (PF) site
on: April 03, 2005, 02:36:43 PM
I've noticed that whenever I use the Piano Forum site for a fair bit of time, my computer starts to slow down a lot. I had a look around and found out that every time I open a new part of the site (a new thread or reply etc), about 2-5Mb of my page files get taken up. This isn't really a problem, the problem is more that they are piling up... once I found taht my computer was using 800Mb when its usually only about 200Mb, everthing was taking AGES. When I closed my browser which had PF open, it all returned to normal. This happens only in relation to this site.
I'm wondering if its just my computer, or if its my browser (IE6), or if its something to do with the site?

After three years online and hundreds of thousands visitors I have never heard from anyone with this problem.
Is there anyone here with good knowledge about Windows that have an idea about why this happens.

Sounds like a memoryleak..

try:
1) using a different browser (like firefox)
2) remove all the spyware/adware of you computer (with lavasoft)

Do you use windows xp? Can you see in the taskmanager what program is actually using up all the memory?

Web pages don't use page file memory to store cache content.  Page file memory is virtual memory that would normally exist as RAM but overflows onto your hard drive.  Piano Forum may have something to do with a virtual memory overflow (though I've never encountered a problem) but its doubtful.  More symptoms would be helpful to fix the problem.
