Experiments with Suno AI

Purely for fun I fed Suno with a number of my  recordings. Most results fell far short of any particular merit but I rather like these two. The first is my old composition, "Sexy Filipina" and the second is a song I wrote ages ago with lyrics, "As Once I Flew", after seeing a television documentary about the Guinea Pig Club and Archibald McIndoe. I attach originals and Suno output.

I think collaboration with AI is an interesting tool to explore creativity and it's only going to get better, fast!

I've watched some of Rick Beato's videos on AI, but haven't as much as put a toe into it myself. These are certainly musical, and I can't call it fake, as your intelligence is driving it. It's another tool, another instrument. A piano needs a player - AI needs to be driven by human intelligence. Very ubteresting experiments.

Nice to see you posting again Dave. Don't worry, I'm not about to concede my creative volition to artificial intelligence (oxymoron ?). Suno made a complete hash of everything I uploaded except a few short pieces I wrote many years ago. I fed it sections of my improvisation and it just substituted a soup of unrelated phrases extracted from nineteenth century convention and popular music.

It'll be fast all right, as J.B. Priestley put it more than half a century ago discussing trends of society - "Let's all push the accelerator even if we don't know where the car is going."
"Better" ? I can't even assess the quality of my own music at the best of times. One day I'll think, "That's good, that's very good" then the next day, "That's bad, that's very bad".  I used to think I knew sixty years ago but now at almost eighty I realise I have no idea at all about quality in music.

Interesting. Indeed, it does seem that way, and I'm not quite sure whether something can or should be done to change it.
