Grand Galop to Liszt Paganini Etude 4
on: July 12, 2026, 04:26:19 AM
So to give perspective, I’ve played Grand Galop Chromatique by Franz Liszt and my teacher is out of town for the summer, so I’ve got to learn a new piece. I’ve decided on etude 4b from the 1838 s.140 Liszt / Paganini etudes, and I want to know what the hardest parts of the piece are to focus on and what exercises you guys might recommend?

Honestly I'd recommend learning the 4a version instead. It's actually playable and it's a much better piece (as in, the difference between my third favorite Liszt etude and one of my least favorites).

Now why can't I make this Courier New font...

This one?

/srs Why restrict yourself to things that basically everybody has played? Standard repertoire is only at most a few thousand pieces. There's millions more out there, and a chunk of it is just as good -- if not better -- than the vast majority of stuff in standard rep.
