I am not sure what he wil be playing. pogorelich is alright. I saw him last year. He played pretty slow, but very velvety.

Some people say that is he is the best pianist since Liszt.  He can play anything.
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

Who is the first? I would say that he is the best pianist in the world, as far as I know for now(IMHO).

He is much much better than Glenn Gould.

Since I am Canadian myself, I wanted to to ask a while ago who you thought was the best canadian pianist.  On this board I've read about how good M-A. Hamelin is. I've read also how good Louis Lortie is (another Canadian) How do you compare one to another.  There is also Alain Lefebvre who is well known...so what do you think?

i have a question that is similar to my earlier thread about defining a virtuoso

everyone says MAH has one fo the best techniques in history.

some aspects of technique of course are controlling legato, articulations, dynamics, etc

but in the area of pure speed, to me all concert, 'virtuoso' pianists i have held in similar regard because even when one does not play a fast passage as fast as another i assume its because he doesnt want to not because he cant

but im realizing this may not be true

so my question is, how much faster do you think MAH can play a particular octave passage, run,etc than your everyday recording pianist (e.g. serkin)

In Feb. at UofH they have an annual piano festival there. I am not sure of the exact time or what the program is.
