Celesta Piano
on: April 21, 2005, 11:36:03 AM
Hi, I'm haveing a hard time trying to find any information on a celesta piano I'm going to buy.
Does anyone know cirka what they cost? It can't be that many different models of it.
I think it's buildt somewhere in the 60's or the 70's.

Clesta is a acoustic piano but insted of strings it has some sort of xylpohone inside. It sounds relly beautiful, like a music box.

I think that they've got to be alot cheaper than regular pianos, beacause it is a mouch simpler instrument.
I've done some recording with it, you can listen to it here:

Hopeing anyone can help me!
Hilsen Kjetil.

A celesta is a keyboard instrument, not a piano.

Google is a wonderful thing

Celestas are expensive new, perhaps twice the cost of a high end upright piano. I saw a Schiedmayer 4 octave celesta listed at $25,000. A 5 or 5 1/2 octave model might be 30% to 50% more.

Yamahas may be somewhat less expensive.

They are not simpler than pianos; the Yamaha has an action like a grand piano, but larger.

They are expensive (when new) in part because they are made in small numbers.

You may be able to buy the used one relatively inexpensively. But you may have to do some work on it if the action is worn.
