Question
on: April 22, 2005, 03:50:15 AM
Once i asked a concert pianist if he could recommend me a grade 6 piano piece by Scriabin, and he told me that all the works by Scriabin are grade 8 or higher.

True or False?
The masterpiece tell the performer what to do, and not the performer telling the piece what it should be like, or the cocomposer what he ought to have composed.

True

Scriabin is very difficult in general.

erm which system are you using? in AMEB, Scriabin would generally be graded as Amus or Lmus. Maybe op 2 no1? it doesn't seem that difficult but is probably still over 6th grade.

False.

Here are a few:

Prelude in Db Op. 11 no. 15 (Grade 5)
Prelude in B op. 2 no. 2 (grade 6)
Prelude in Gb op. 16 no. 3 (grade 6)
Prelude in Gm op.11 no. 22 (grade6)
Prelude in B op. 27 no. 2 (grade 7)
Prelude in Em op. 11 no. 4 (grade 7)
Prelude in C#m op. 2 no. 1 (grade 7)
Prelude in E op. 11 no. 9 (grade 7)
Prelude op. 11 no. 5 (grade 7)
Prelude in F#m op. 11 no. 8 (grade 8 )

All of these were in past ABRSM examinations (ABRSM grades range from 1 – 8)

Best wishes,
Bernhard.
